A Weekend Drive

I hope you dance, a song recently made popular by Lee Ann Womack invited the listener to try, rather than sit it out and watch. In life we are faced with the persistent do I or don’t I. The struggle for what is best, which is right, what to do. It is not always easy to know which path to f0llow, we may regret our choices, and other times we relish in the good ones.

This weekend I made one of these random choices, I drove to Texas. Not for any particular reason, but because I could. I have been living in Oklahoma City for three weeks, and I am now on the down hill leg of my stay. I have taken the time to visit art galleries in Pasio, and the Cowboy History museum. I have seen the capital building and the monument to the tragedy that occurred here. I have ridden my bike around one of the largest lakes in the state, and walked the streets of old Bricktown. I have seen many things, and met people from all over the country. This weekend I felt the need to journey south, to the lone star state. I left after church on Sunday afternoon, with the kind of enthusiasm that makes my wife want to drive three hours into Minnesota’s back country to find the house of Laura Ingles Wilder. With that of focus, you can do almost anything. So I left, knowing only that I wanted to go south. How long or which road, didn’t matter so much to me. So I cranked up my EFY tracks on my IPod and went. Now I am not saying that this kind of decision is logical, or strongly recommended, but I did it none the less. For two hours I plunged southward. Till at last I arrived at the border. I did not spend a great deal of time in Texas, but it was well worth it. I saw a very beautiful sunset, rolling hills I had not seen before and had several very pleasant conversations with my family on the phone.

On that note I dedicate this posting to my brother Zach… who took a chance this weekend too. He proposed to his girlfriend Katie!!! Way to go!!! I wish you the very best, I am so happy for you. Sometimes we get complacent and comfortable, with who we are and what we do. It is not easy to do something new, unexplored, and sometimes a little scary. Usually though, we find it is worth the chance, to go ahead and join the dance.
